12-10-2008 - Manta Rescue!
It is wonderful when we have the opportunity to have a really positive effect on our diving environment and the animals we dive with. Such was the occasion when we were diving at Manta Point last month. Three of our guests, Janet, Cindy and Paul along with their guide Nyoman were approached by a large manta just moments after entering the water. This creature was thoroughly entangled in very heavy fishing line and was obviously in some difficulty. The manta just hovered, waiting for the divers to cut away the line, not struggling or resisting even when Nyoman had to hold on. With a few judicious cuts, 25 metres of line was gently removed. You could almost see the fish sigh with relief! It was a diving memory that will stay with us all for a very long time!
